Deputy Commander of the RDK Stepan Kaplunov said he was kidnapped by SBU employees on August 23. He claims the security service tried to discredit President’s Office head Kirill Budanov and special unit “Timur” deputy commander Dmitry Ivanov, and to plant items in his apartment.
SBU previously reported that on the eve of Independence Day it prevented an assassination allegedly ordered by the FSB. The President’s Office said there is no confrontation between GUR and SBU, noting that the agencies’ statements are responses to media inquiries.
