On 23 August unknown attackers assaulted residents of the Svjatogirsk Holy Dormition Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Monk Varsophony died from knife wounds, while novice Gregory and novice Andriy suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.
Law enforcement officers are on the scene; the circumstances of the attack and the identities of the assailants are being determined. The assault occurred on the monastery grounds.
