According to Politico, both Russia and EU countries are restricting Ukraine's grain export. Following Russian attacks on Black Sea shipping, Kyiv is trying to redirect shipments through the EU, while Poland, Hungary and Slovakia express concerns about a new influx of Ukrainian grain onto their markets.
In the first nine days of August Ukraine exported only 463 thousand tonnes of grain – about one‑third of the usual volume. Land transport costs $50–70 more per tonne than sea routes, and the Danube’s low water level further limits options, potentially creating storage capacity shortages by November.
